Investigating Factors Affecting Upstream Contamination

Shen Xing Yang, Hengyue Wang, Kieran Majel Mendoza, Bernard Ricardo

An investigation of upstream contamination in fluid dynamics—a phenomenon where surfactants in a lower reservoir climb against an incoming liquid stream to contaminate an upper reservoir, driven by surface tension gradients (the Marangoni effect). Evaluates stream flow rates, channel geometry, and surfactant concentration thresholds.
